My journey making an MMORPG

I like to keep record of what I have done in gamedev. While looking forward is important, looking back is powerful, and seeing where we were and how far we've come is incredibly rewarding and motivating. But it's also important that it cannot look like a desert, where any given progress looks the same, and so looking back has the opposite effect. So having small milestones that are achievable and have an impact is important.

These are a few screenshots of the very early stages of the project and some of the latest one. In between, a lot has been done. From network, character creation, customisation, quests, spells, combat, NPC scripting, and a lot more. It's been a slow, and sometimes hard walk. Sometimes some negative comments. But some people also very supportive, providing invaluable feedback, and writing very kind and praising comments.

Granted, it still needs a lot of work, and and especially in the graphics and art. But it's a work in progress, and I will get there.

It's been a fantastic journey, and I have learned a lot. With the game slowly taking shape, and soon going into some content creation, I am very looking forward to seeing the world itself take shape, the stories unfolding and the mystery taking place.

I am considering to make a long video talking about the whole journey, in a bit of a more personal view as well, as opposed to focused on features as it has been done so far.

If you would enjoy that, let me know in the comments what kind of topics, aspects or any other things you would like to know about.

Always track your progress and accomplishments, and don't forget to look back to remind yourself of how far you've come.
