Hello! I'm a really poor high school student who just has a dream to make a game. I decided that I should use MIDI for music.(Trying to compose orchestral musics) MIDI doesn't sound that good so I researched a little bit to find out how to improve the sound. Soundfont was the answer but my card doesn't support soundfont. Is there anyone out there that will tell me the cheapest soundcard that will support soundfont or how to improve the sound of MIDI to an orchestral quality <--I think this is possible Thx for your attention [edited by - iamniceguy on January 4, 2003 6:44:44 PM]
It is my pleasure to help you out... Or it''s your pleasure to help me out... ^(^

Your logic confounds me, Niceguy. You could stick to MIDI if you wanted to, but why? And don''t bother with getting a soundfont-playing card. It''s not worth the effort of making it work with different software. You can do soundfonts all in software now, doncha know? The soundfont player I use is the one built into Fruityloops.

Then would you care to tell me how I could use soundfonts in Cakewalk 9.0?

Does Cakewalk have VST support yet? Virtual instruments are the answer. Here's some soundfont players or supporters from a search on www.kvr-vst.com:

http://www.kvr-vst.com/inst.php?inst=344
http://www.kvr-vst.com/inst.php?inst=239

Some are free. Some are quite expensive and full-featured (like Kontakt). Some are VST and/or DXi. I have tried none of them, so maybe someone else has a opinions on them.
