How is sound made
One question, I hear peeople make gun sounds and cars sounds etc. How can you do that. Dont you need to record them from real life with high tech machines
I'm interested, too. I'm guessing you can take a stock sound and modify it. Dropping a bowl, recording its impact on a hard floor, and really slowing it down might produce the sound of a distant boom, for instance.
The strange sound afterwards would be the other person asking you what the %#@! you are doing.

Some of the less realistic sounding car sounds can be done with synthesizers.. though it''s very hard to synthesize an engine starting. Too many small sounds to put together to make it sound very real.
Things like guns can also be done with synthesizers, or sampling things being hit and then doing quite a bit of editing on them.
Most people work from sample libraries and modify things to suit their needs.
