Maybe this isn''t the best place to post this msg, so, if it''s true then tell me that and the place were I can post it. I need to make a decoding engine for mp3 files to use in games or elsewere. Don''t tell me that there are many engines available on net, because i want to have my own (that way I''ll not have problems with the copyright etc). So, if u can help, DO IT! Thanks, Peter.

Why don''t you buy a license for Bass.dll?

It costs $200. I''m quite sure that you would end up spending more than that writing your own (include the time you spend and how much that time is worth).

You won''t have any liscense issues this way.

A VERY BAD IDEA!!!

In Romania 200$ = 6 000 000 lei, more then 5 times the medium wages somebody can get.
i''m not representing a company, I''m not working for a company, I''m just a student who tries to learn about programing and decoding mp3 is one of my goals...
Anyway, thanks for replying ... peter

Sorry, I thought you needed something to use in a product right away or something.

Here''s one that''s free (personal or even commercial use), there is a liscense agreement, but there aren''t any significant restrictions. It uses more CPU power than bass.dll though.

Try this portal for info: http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/mp3.html

Also, if you just want any old compressed audio player, try Ogg Vorbis--their stuff is open source, and free.
