Hi, I''m looking for a decent freeware program(s) to make sound effects from scratch. I''m doing a simple game to start off with because I''m really new at making games so I don''t want to invest in expensive programs right now. I''m also any PC programs that could make sounds used in Techno/Trance/House. Not the whole song but bits I could import into the music program I have. If anyone can help I''d appreciate it. If I didn''t explain something just tell me. And I''ll try to clear it up.

.mid program.

You can use a drumbox and make some beats but there is a sarcity in the number of freeware apps. that allow you to make music and export them.

Modplug Tracker at www.modplug.ccom
Scarcity? Phooey! Heres some freeware apps that i have found extremely useful:

DrumSynth is a freeware program designed to synthesize drum sounds by adjusting a variety of components. It is amazingly effective in this role; you can build any drum you can imagine, export it to WAV, and use it in your favorite tracker. It can also convincingly emulate many hardware drum machines, found in the presets. But the tool is so comprehensive that i think it would be extremely useful in making game sounds. Just play with it for a while and im sure you could get some killer fighting/shooting/spellcasting noises. Run the sounds through some VST effects and yer set.

TS-404 is an awesome-sounding freeware software synthesizer. It has been integrated into Fruityloops, a commercial software package. (and a very capable, reasonably priced one too. [$50] check it out at fruityloops.com) Since it lacks a full sequencer, it is limited to making short patterns, which shouldn''t bother you at all. To edit your pattern, go to Pattern->Edit... DUH, i know... but since there is no help file it took me 2 days to figger that out.. heh.

Check out HammerHead too... it does drumloops (big deal) but the interface is so easy and fun (TR-909ish) that you can play with it for hours. It sounds pretty damn good too. It is the main focus of the site that hosts all this stuff.

For a bunch more golden nuggets of freeware, look over the rest of the HammerHead Useful Apps page.

I know you''re not looking for something to do an entire song, but Buzz it so awesome you MUST give it a try. It is a tracker that uses the concept of "machines" (effect or generator plugins) to set up a virtual studio. The machines (synths, drum machines, compressors, distortion FX, etc.) can be connected together and be individually programmed in the sequencer (even the effects). The interface is a bit difficult to learn, but really well designed for speed. New machines are being released all the time, for free by independent developers. It ownz. Really.

Download and run these in sequence:

http://freehost02.websamba.com/bioxid/Buzz/b104to11.exe
http://freehost02.websamba.com/bioxid/Buzz/b12beta8.exe

Then download and unzip these machine packs, as instructed on the page, starting with the bottom-most one.

Its a bit of effort, but its REALLY WORTH IT! Check www.buzzmachines.com periodically for new machine releases.

Jam on. :D

Sorry I was typing to fast and talking at the same time so my infomation highway got all screwed and that''s why I spelled scarcity wrong, I don''t mean to rationalize, but my intention was to put ...there is a scarcity in the number of GOOD freeware programs that allow you to make music and export them.

I''ve been using hammerhead my self there''s some serious bass in those drums. I like the Hardcore 909 BD 1 and the Hardcore 909 BD 2 drums. The 909 is what I usually use becasue it sends just enough bass to the speakers when you press the DIS key for the channel your using it in.

I have a link for a whole page about making music when I find it I''ll post it.
Thx for the help guys. Youve given me exactly the stuff im looking for to the show on the road. Peace.
