Well, my first job was not a game job, but it dealt hands-on with animals and I loved it too, so not feeling like work.
I used that time to prepare my gaming résumé/programming portfolio.
I had a stockpile of demos to show to my first attempt in the gaming industry and it was sufficient enough to get me the job—which was in another country—and it has been a blast ever since.
For those considering breaking into the industry, don’t forget that you can get a job anywhere in the world, not just in your own country. I didn’t speak the language at first either, so don’t consider that a major stumbling block (although you must speak English if you do not speak their language).
