//ADDITIONAL NOTE!!!!!

So, it's been in the works for a while but the time has finally come.

I've decided to move my primary journal off of GameDev.net, my new journal will be here: http://www.edigames.com/journal

Now I realize some of you may have some questions about why, so I am going to go over my main reasons. If there are some I don't address feel free to comment on them.

1. Posting to a limited audience

This is the big one, I really only have the time and drive to post on one journal, and while GameDev.net is great, I would have to say most of the people (some who enjoyed reading about Morning's Wrath development) don't care about graphic adventure game development. Graphic adventure is the future of EDIGames for as far as I can see down the line (no more RPGs), so it is important that if im saying things it gets heard by people who want to hear it, and as many people as possible.

2. GameDev.net has become horribly slow

I am sure I am not alone in this one, within the passed 6 months, accessing GDNet has been like playing russian roulette with a server error 500. For my plans going forward (spreading my journal to far more external sources) I can't have it turning away potential readers.

3. No journal owner moderation abilities

I brought this issue up a while back, mainly because now and then I need the feature. There are times when I would love to remove somone comment or ban a person from commenting, but these features aren't in my hands.

4. Growth

EDIGames is growing, and if all goes well it will grow more as time moves on. Part of this growth is to centralize all content so that it can be maintained easier, having full control of the development journal will aid in this.

While I will keep this journal, and will continue to keep my GDNet+ account to continue support for GDNet, it is likely that my posting here will be very limited in the future.

I will talk with the GDNet staff to see if they would like to show alternative linkage (offsite journal) for my journal like a few others do, so you can still access it easily from the journal page.

Ah darn, I've always been interested in seeing your journal float to the top of the updated list. I hope you'll still be making a few brief updates from time to time to remind me to check what's going on in your EDIGames journal.

Out of the reasons you've listed for shifting the journal I understand reasons 2, 3 and 4, which all seem to be reasonable justifications for shifting your main journal to your own website. However I'm not sure I follow reason 1 - surely anyone checking your journal over on your own website already knows about your game development, whereas here you get expose to more eyeballs? However if you are also keeping other journals at more adventure game oriented websites (do any of those exist?) then it makes sense to have brief updates all over the web linking to your main journal.

You just said it, basically. At the moment the only people reading my journal are developers, this is all fine and good, however it is important that we get the 'gamer' community involved much more. Doing this within the setting of GDNet didin't make much sense, so while it will still have a lot of development content (perhaps categorized), this is mainly a switch to get adventure gamers (the people who will actually buy our game) more involved, instead of just developers.

Up until now I've kept one journal, but when my realization that I had to change this came up, I toyed with the idea of two journals, however I know realisticly it would never work.

While I am sure I will still post here, it will be very infrequent and likely nothing terribly interesting, in short if you want the scoop you're gonna need to read my new journal.

Sorry to hear this. I have always been a big fan of your journal and although I don’t comment much I always loved reading what you had to write. Your journal is among the very few interesting and exiting ones on GD. I will make sure I will visit your new journal from time to time. I just hope the very few comments I made on your GD journal weren’t among the ones you wanted to remove or ban.

Make sure to mirror posts here for a while so we know when to give you a visit!

.... And I've been considering the same thing for a while now.

probably wont be mirroring it, so the best idea is to either drop by (so hard, I know ;D), or use an RSS feed program. I figure my most dedicated readers will make the transition easily, which is really the important part overall.

I am also going to try and make posts daily, might not happen, but we'll see.

Sorry to see you go. If I had known this were an issue before, I'd have recommended sending in news updates to IndieGamer (I've done it for Toxic Hippo's games on occasion) or one of the adventure game enthusiast sites.
