Re-Tooling

So where have I been these past few days?
Where are more of the mysterious pictures?

The answer is, I am Re-Tooling. When I started working on this next game I found that my computer... is just damn slow.

Now, I have been meaning to get a new one for QUITE a while, as it is my current one is somewhere between 5 to 6 years old.

(AMD Athalon 950MHZ 256MB RAM Radeon 9500)

I prommised myself that I would not get a computer until MW was done (didin't want to get distracted), and then I realized. MW IS DONE!

So, it is computer time:

Above is the work in progress of my totaly new computer (lower pic is my horribly cluttered current setup (yes that is the whiteboard that I used for keeping track of MW development =D)

The window is custom, I did the cutting myself, not fun I will assure you, but at least now it is one-of-a-kind =D

As far as some basic specs:

ABIT KN8 Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor
x2 - CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory

used vinyl(sp) lettering to do it,

cost of doing the window was about 10 bucks, the labor was a bit of a pain (tin-snips and good amount of dremel work)

but it's definetly nice for the price =)
and it's not another 'biohazard or radioactive' case decal [grin] =D

I would love to get something like that done on the side of my case. I'll upload a picture to my journal sometime soon.

And may I ask... what are those CDs you've got hanging on the wall of your workspace?

Otherwise, I love your work area. Mine would be just like that, but I wouldn't be able to deal with all that clutter on the desk. Love the whiteboard!

1) I want a work area like yours. Mine is ok but very cluttered.

2) That computer is a lot like the one I hope to be building in a few months. May ask I a question though? Why did you go with the x800 over something like the 6800GT (of course, if you don't mind me asking :))?

I currently have a Radeon 8500 and I like it alot.

So I decided to go with an x800PRO, just to keep with ATI, could have gone either way I guess.

I wont be doing any serious gaming on this machine, it is being made _strictly_ for game development, and it is game development of a 2D nature (though using 3D as a rendering API), so I wont need any of the crazy new features. All I really need are blending, lighting, modulating, texturing, of triangles (couple thousand), and as much Fill-Rate and Memory as I can get =)

The real importance of this machine was the fast CPU and the 2GB of RAM, which are essential to the amount of modeling and rendering I am likely to be doing (unless we can find a dedicated artist).
