So, after the failure on wednesday of my TGA flipping routine I went back and took another look at it all earlier today.
After some fiddling it all appears to be working correctly, which is slightly worrying as looking at the code I pasted and the code which works now they appear the same.

So, with a brief moment of calm and TF2 just not doing it for me I sat down to work out some of the bugs in GTL3 with regards to my testing.
The first problem I had was, based on commonality the PNG flips were all wrong; this was a simple coding error; I put 'false' when I meant 'true'.

With all the work related stuffs going on I've not had a chance to sit down and do much of anything of late; the other night I got my first game of TF2 in for days and today I sat down and added PNG saving to my GTL3 test app so I could visually check the output.
Fortunately most things work fine it…

In responce to rip-off's comment the Xmas avatar is now in full effect; fear it!

So, right now, I very much look Brighton bound for real.
Had a phone call today with an offer to start at Zoe Mode on Jan 7th [wow]
This is some what provisional on me having somewhere to live at that point of course, heh, but for all intents and purposes I do indeed now have a job; huzzah!

Thus the journey begins. The plan; Brighton and back stopping off for an interview and maybe a spot of world domination, time allowing.
Today's journey is being paid for by the goverment, which is the reason i'm on a standard return ticket and not a save-stuck-in-london-until-gone-7pm ticket.

So, after a bit of time off to play TF2 and generally let my brain deal with other things I decided to put on my coder hat this afternoon while listening to Ipswich losing at the football and finish off the DXTn flipping routines.

Before I went out tonight I found an email from someone asking me about the 'fastest TGA loader' around. Apprently he needs to load TGAs very fast for something he is working on.
As I found this email shortly before I walked out the door I couldn't really do much to answer then, however I have manag…

So, after playing TF2, having a bath, playing MORE TF2, talking on IRC, more TF2 and generally killing time I finally cracked on with the DXTn flipping routines.
To be fair, the bath did give me some good ideas so that wasn't a problem as such *chuckles*

So, continuing on from the last entry I looked into the DDS files, or more specifically DXTn compressed data.
Unlike the other image types with DXTn compressed data we don't have simple blocks of pixels to move about; instead we get a series of data which represents a 4x4 block of pixels in some man…

As mentioned at the end of the last entry more testing of GTL3 was required to check for bugs, however before I got on with that I sat down and checked out the various bits of maths in my copying routines.
There were a few 'off by one' errors still about, and some algorithms just needed rethinking t…

Tonight was mostly spent working out how to effectively decode RLE compressed TGAs in one pass.
This wasn't fun.
The problem is two fold;
- how to deal with decompressing and flipping RLE data in one pass
- how to deal with bgr and rgba data types, the latter of which requires flipping.
The solution; t…

One of the aspects of GTL which I wasn't happy with before was the flipping code to reorintate an image as required.
The problems with it were three fold;
- firstly it worked on pure 'bytes' as a post-process and as such had no idea what it was playing with data wise. For normal 8bit images this woul…

So, I've finished the changes to GTL to allow the data size to be carried along with the data itself and I'm about to test it, however a thought occured to me.
Right now you have to poll the object to see what its state is, I'm starting to think that maybe a callback system might be useful to have. …

So, somehow it's made it to 6am.. I'm not overly sure what happened to the last few hours as it doesn't seem that long ago it was midnight.
Anyways, GTL3 progresses forwards; all the decoders are now back in for the most part, however I've hit upon a slight snag with the JPG and PNG decoders.

So, with the TF2 server I play on empty and my work on the HL2 mod being completed until I pick up the next task (point_camera transitions now working perfectly, huzzah!) I sat down the decided to write a test app for GTL3.

I'm slowly generating a nice "todo" list of projects and things which I want to get done, so I figured for my own memory and because I haven't written anything in a while I'd waffle about it here for a bit;

So, my saga of the hard drives has come to an end; after the 2nd freeze attempt the drive still didn't remotely power up, so all the data on it has been declared 'lost'.
Fortunately, the files I did lose were mostly unimportant and the 2 Lua files I lost from the HL2 mod took me hardly any time at a…

So, I put the hard drive into the freezer last night, because at this point frankly things couldn't get any worse..
About 12h later I extracted it and plugged it in; to start with it would hardly spin up, sounding like it was hitting a peak speed and then slowing down again and repeating. After a fe…

So, I'm not dead right now... although I'm slowly getting annoyed with computers again :|
I spent today finally working on some HL2 mod stuff, got what I wanted to work, saved it and was happy.

So, I've fixed the graphical artifacts in the code, it was as suspected something todo with the refraction code;
However, while it "fixes" it I'm not too happy about the fix.
The problem was of course that it was saturating the colours leading to white spots on the image; now the clamping was handled…

So, today I woke up and felt like doing something different, sure I could work on 4E6 stuff or even get my head into some Lua code for a Super Secret Project, however I didn't feel like either of these, instead I felt like doing something new to me and at the same time picking up and improving on s…

This is an offical request for some of what Superpig was on when he came up with the list of elements [razz]

Well, it appears that Superpig is getting ready to fire the starting pistol for 4E6. Given my current abundance of time given the small amount of time I work I might well be taking part in this one.

So, WO continues to be fun, unlike the other MMOs I've tried of late this one has the 'I'll just hop back on to do something for a few mins' factor; I think it's down to being able to solo things and take on multiple enemies without getting horribly murdered which does it (one which which annoyed m…
I forgot to mention in the excitement of GTL3.0 plans, but last week I got my invite for the Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning closed beta.
