Ready. Set. Go!

So I submitted my form for the IGF yesterday, and paid my $95.00

I have before Sept 6th to upload MW to the site.

It needs to have an un/installer, Seriema has helped me in setting up a basic NullSoft installer, which should make things nice and painless.

I am curently working to finish the documentat…

Fluff!
So, I've never considered myself much of an artist.

(Thought given that I did 90% of the artwork for Morning's Wrath, lots of people tend to disagree with me.)

On paper, my drawing absolutely sucks, unless it is somthing very in-organic, and even then it's not great.

I can model pretty well, but again…

Day 4
Last night I met with Shoe String Games, as ususal, so it took a big chunk of my time =/

However I was up till about 1:30 working on things and got a good amount acomplished.

New Cursor!

Inspired by John Hattan's strict sense of (make games less confusing), I have replaced MW's sword cursor, with an a…

Make it Shimmer, Make it Shine, apply that Polish!
So I just came up with the first itteration of our 'help'

At the very least this will be provided in rich format in an HTML document with images to illustrate certain key things.

However I would really like to do a Tutorial, I guess we will see =/

Submitted for your approval, critique and whatever els…

Still racing along =D

The decision to submit to the IGF is potentially one of the best motivators I could have asked for. I work extreamly well under tight deadlines.

So, the Cinematic engine is done now, it's .cine files are expressed in XML.

It allows defenition of content layers (images, text, soun…

    The Essence of MW
Trader Jack raised an issue that has been raised many times in the past, so I decided it is time to make sure everyone is on the samge page =)

    The Morning's Wrath Box Art:

It seems that a lot of people don't like the morning's wrath box art.

(as seen here in a digital rendering)

    So lets talk about this…

    Media Rehash
So I picked up a ream of gloss inkjet paper at staples today, hoping that it would produce similar results to the gloss CD labels I have.

Unfortunetly upon getting a good look at the paper my hopes faded (should have done it in the store =/)

After runing one through I was even more dissapointed =/

    The Case / IGF
    Greetings People =D

So, it has long been the want for me to give everyone deeply involved in the project a nice Limited Edition physical copy of Morning's Wrath.

I invisioned a box (don't we all) however I came to realize that box design and printing is exceptionally prohibitive (too damn expensive),…

    Streaming
So, I finally got a working concept of directsound audio streaming, i will be working tonight to finish it all up into a final clean adaptor.

    Here is how it works:

    Startup:
    1. prepare directsound
    2. create a single multimedia timer that elapses every half-second.
    3. create a single mutex for sychronizat…

    Revise. Test. Revise. Test.
So MW has had no shortage of bugs, but we expected this, it is impossible to imagine a game as large as MW without bugs.

Thankfully bug fixes have been fairly painless, and they seem to be growing less.

Here is the first draft of the proposed CD Art that will be on the physical version of MW:

So some people lately have been wondering where all the screenshots are =)

Somone who has been following the project since it surfaced on GDNet should have noticed that the majority of screenshots appeared during both the map design and scripting phase.

    Continuation
So, we have made a decision to stop external testing.

Mainly because we are not getting what we hopped out of it.
We found most testers to be extreamly under-zealous, yet more than willing to bash us, as if the free beta copy they were playing was actually the Final 'I-paid-30-bucks-for' copy.

    So the …

So, the weekened went well and was extreamly productive.

Here are a few things that were accomplished:

  • Fixed State Clearing/Restoration

  • Integrated 14 of the 20 new item graphics for artifacts

  • Made doors block when a character is in them, and gave them blocked sounds

  • Made map transition 'portals' much ea…

    Me Hate Bugs...
So indeed my suspicions were correct that the offending sprite was NOT in the managed list.

    How did this happen?

Well, the sprite was not a dead body, but, blood.

Yup, thats right, the blood fx is what did it in. Turns out that i did not specify the blood sprites to be managed (since they delete thems…

    oy...
so, last night did not see the beginings of modification to the cinematic component.

Instead I found a very bad bug in the motion system.

lets say there is a script which has you go from point A to point B, then has you say somthing.

this script works normaly under most circumstances, however =)

    Testing Day 4
Not much happened yesterday, testing wise.

Ive removed my focus from the configuration window bug, since I have bigger fish to fry.

Right now my focus is on the save system, and removing the bugs from it.

Last night while debugging it I ran into a strange bug, which was causing it to crash.

    Testing Day 3
So day3 of testing went well.

    Map4 Bug

Apparently Seriema's bug was indeed valid, I mispelled a variable name in one of the script functions on map4.

This is of course the only reason (IMO) why implcit variables suck, since if explicit declarations were neccisary it would have told me that $lphalpien …

    Testing: Day 2
So the second day of testing went okay as well.

With the help of Seriema I was able to isolate and destroy some good bugs, for instance:

  • config dialog cancel bug
  • config apply button not default
  • sprite flicker (time base animation frame overflow(evil!))
  • part of the 'Phantom Quit Bug'

    The Phantom Quit Bug,…

So far most things have gone on without a hitch, but there were a few minor things:
